Hitchens es un autor muy controvertido. Inglés de nacimiento, y nacionalizado americano. Ha sido columnista y colaborador de diferentes publicaciones (Vanity Fair, The Atlantic, World Affairs, The Nation, Slate, Free Inquiry...) y es conocido por su fuerte activismo político. Antes señalado como perteneciente a la izquierda más radical, en los últimos años se ha acercado a posturas más propias de la derecha conservadora americana, sobre todo en respuesta a los últimos sucesos relacionados con el terrorismo internacional.

Hitchens es un reconocido ateo y así lo proclama a los cuatro vientos; y cree firmemente en los valores del humanismo, el secularismo y la razón.

Es un autor ácido, cínico y sin pelos en la lengua. Esto le ha llevado durante su carrera a criticar a numerosas personalidades públicas, como la Madre Teresa de Calcuta, con un vocabulario y unas formas que muchos calificarían de insultantes.

Opinión:
Últimamente estoy muy interesado en el tema del ateísmo, y este libro me parece, junto con "The God Delusion" de Richard Dawkins, o "The End of Faith" de Sam Harris, uno de los básicos para que uno se dé cuenta de que no está sólo en esto del ateísmo.
